ESPERANZA GOMEZ-CARRERA

ESPERANZA GOMEZ-CARRERA

ESPERANZA GOMEZ-CARRERA is a visual artist and producer from Málaga, based in London. With a degree in Psychology from the University of Granada and a degree in Fine Art from the University of the Arts London (UAL), she brings these two interests together to develop and explore her view of the world, creating installations and performances. Over a long
international career she has rebuilt books and given them wings, and has intervened in everyday objects to give them new meaning; she works on installations using both day-to-day objects and ephemeral natural materials. She creates by combining the five elements of nature — ether, earth, air, fire and water — as the support and balance of our existence, and as an invitation to reflect on it.

She also stages actions and performances, both her own and with other artists. She has worked with Tino Sehgal at Tate Modern (London) and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, with Dora García at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid and at the Gropius Bau in Berlin, as well as with other international artists.

She is a founding member of Degrees of Freedom (DOF), Art Projects and Productions in London, with which she has staged interventions at Trafalgar Square, the British Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern in London, among others. She was awarded a Biznaga de Plata at the 2021 Málaga Film Festival for her documentary “Arte en Movimiento”, in the “Mujeres en Escena” section. Her work is held in private collections in Europe, Argentina, the United States, Japan and Singapore, among others.
